Postal collection
Fund of the postal collection of the PTT museum consists of cultural property in the area of postal traffic, which is the basis for studying the development of postal technology in various historical periods, on the territory of Serbia and former Yugoslavia.
This collection includes reconstructions of monuments, maps of postal routes and means for writing letters from ancient and the middle ages.
The collections also contains original letters from the end of 18th and 19th century, written in different languages from the areas that would later become part of Yugoslavia. Letters are stamped with genuine postal, customs, quarantine and censorship stamps. Based on marking and verification of these letters, we can follow the development of postal technology.
Besides letters, the collection contains means for reception, transfer and delivery of postal items: postage marks, impression blocks, scales, postal bags and horns. There are collections of mailboxes, cash registers, postal boards, uniforms, badges for caps.
In addition to the original diligence from the 19th century, there are models of postal cars, carriages, wagons and postal sailboats that were used for the transport of postal items.
From more recent times we have preserved machines for the reception of postal items: mechanical, electrical, and a number of digital machines.
